©GIZ/Christian Gromotka targets organic producers at the BIOFACH trade fair - learn about our many services

From 13th to 16th February, the world’s leading trade fair for organic food  – BIOFACH – will take place at the Exhibition Centre in Nuremberg. This year, again shares its booth with the Import Promotion Desk (IPD) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). will showcase successful development partnerships with the private sector. Organic producers can learn about the different financial and professional services that are available to companies interested in investing in developing countries and emerging economies.

The high demand for organic food requires a fair and responsible approach to agriculture

Three factors required to meet the growing demand for high-quality organic products are specialist knowledge, stable delivery chains and long-term business relationships in producer countries. This is evident from more than 50 projects worldwide - implemented with private partners as part of the programme. The partnerships demonstrate that the organic sector offers great potential for entrepreneurs and a chance to sustainably improve living conditions in project countries.

The businesses involved include Ecoland, which trains small-scale farmers in Zanzibar in organic farming. In return, Ecoland receives spices of superior quality. The company Original Food has established the market for wild coffee and supports small farmers on their way to organic and fair trade certification with which they can then achieve a higher market price. The farmers can consequently increase their income and preserve the diversity of the mountain rainforests. In Indonesia, Flores Farm and mymuesli are introducing organic and hygiene standards. This means that small-scale farmers and their families benefit from a higher return from the 20 tonnes of physalis they produce each year. The programme, which was commissioned up by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), provides companies with with financial and professional support.

Visitors can talk to experienced project managers and find out more about the programme at Stand 4-561 in Hall 4.  We look forward to your vsit!
